We have all likely heard it mentioned that we are consciousness. This statement is not necessarily true. We are consciousness just as much as we are perception, feelings, thoughts, or even the body. Consciousness arises along with the object that it associates with; consciousness is one and the same as the object, they arise together. The conscious connection with the mental or material world arises with each individual sense connection, and is not a continual flow. Our world is simply one connection after another; you have no family, money, no possessions, and no career. You “have” only what is presently the object of your consciousness.
So, now we must ask; is it really our consciousness? When one tries to find a self within consciousness, one finds momentary acts of consciousness, which therefore cannot constitute a permanent self, the result is no Self-reference point will be found.
