Thursday Night Meditation Schedule

This is the schedule for the Thursday evening meditation group held at AIBMC at 7:00- 8:30 PM

Bhante Ananda Siyabalagoda is a Theravada Buddhist monk from Gangaramaya Temple in Sri Lanka. Bhante has over 30 years practicing and training as a Buddhist counselor, teacher, social worker and community member in Malaysia, Singapore, the UK and the USA. He studied at the State University of New York majoring in Religious Studies and is well used to working within varied Eastern and Western cultures. Bhante Ananda's dedication to service for the community was instilled in him by his teacher the renowned Venerable Galbada Siri Gnanissara Nayaka Thero. He has had close involvement in inter-faith activities working as a chaplain at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He is an experienced meditation teacher and has conducted classes for patients, their families and hospital employees. 



On the Thursdays, facilitated by Gena Tunder, the group will meditate for 45 minutes of which 10 minutes will be guided and the remaining 35 minutes will be in silence. After the meditation, a reading will be shared followed by group discussion. We will end the evening with the Loving-Kindness sutta.  In 2010, Gena began practicing mindfulness meditation (vipassana).  After noticing positive changes in her life from her practice, she became inspired to share meditation with others.  Gena became a certified instructor through the Meditation Learning Center in January 2015.  



Paul Barrett began working with Shane Wilson several years ago focusing on Vipassana Meditation and Buddhist studies. He has completed the 300 hour Certified Meditation Teacher Training program offered by The Meditation Learning Center. Paul has studied different spiritual practices for 23 years and enjoys helping others on their path. Meditation that focuses on Stress Reduction is Paul's expertise. He looks to enhance the great building relationship between Buddhism and Scientific Research.  



Shane Wilson will lead the Thursday evening of meditation by giving a short talk and then leading a 40 minute meditation followed by a group sharing / talk. Shane established the Meditation Learning Center in 2002 and in 2013 he created the "Meditation Teacher Training Program", a global meditation teacher certification program that has assisted thousands of meditators to become capable teachers helping to spread meditation throughout the world. He facilitates meditation and related gatherings including nine silent retreats each year, numerous workshops and works as a personal therapist. His two books are "Meditation, The Great Teacher… the Practice of Going Within,” and "Minding The Breath…a Detailed Study of Mindfulness of Breathing”.
